Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: For peace and against weapons: hundreds in a human chain

Waren (dpa/mv) - In the Mecklenburg Lake District, several hundred people protested with a human chain for a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict and against further arms deliveries. The participants gathered on Saturday with banners and peace flags in Waren an der Müritz in a row about 500 meters long on federal highway 192. The organizer was the Initiative Menschlich-Stark-Miteinander, which otherwise initiates the Monday protests. The police put the number of participants at just over 300 people this time. 400 participants were counted in the first human chain at the end of January.

The occasion this time was the Munich Security Conference, as a spokesman for the initiative said. Banners included slogans such as "Soldiers of all countries, go home" and "Diplomats instead of grenades! Supplying weapons is an accessory to murder". Among the participants for the first time was Waren's mayor Norbert Möller (SPD). According to the police, there were no incidents.

The initiative has been organizing peaceful protests on the Müritz for months, which have recently been increasingly directed against the federal government's Ukraine and energy policies. The delivery of battle tanks was also heavily criticized.
