Gorloser/Klinken (dpa/mv) - Several fire brigades were able to extinguish two forest fires that broke out in the summer heat in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. As a police spokesman said on Thursday, a larger fire broke out on Wednesday in an area of around 3,000 square meters in Gorlose. There was also a smaller fire on about 400 square meters with trees and bushes near the handles further east in Lewitz. In both cases, the causes of the fire are still unclear.
Around 60 fire brigades were able to narrowly prevent the flames from spreading to a property in the Dadow district of Gorloser. The comrades used a device to set up a wall of water, with the extinguishing water spraying in all directions at one point, stopping the fire. The property owner noticed the fire and reported it. The flames were extinguished by the evening, and parts of the site near Dadow would now be moistened to prevent them from flaring up again.
