Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: full streets and trains expected at Pentecost

Hardly any corona restrictions, but a 9-euro ticket and a tank discount: transport companies and ADAC expect trains and motorways to be full on the Pentecost weekend.

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Holidaymakers have to be prepared for full streets and trains at Pentecost in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. "We expect increased travel," said a spokesman for the General German Automobile Club (ADAC). "After two years of the pandemic, there is also an increased desire to travel."

Even before the pandemic, Whitsun was always a busy weekend. "We assume that it will be similar again." The ADAC spokesman said that the first peak of traffic jams can be expected on Friday afternoon. "There are commuters, campers, cars and trucks on the road. It's going to be pretty tight."

The Pentecost holidays in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also start on Friday. It could therefore get crowded, especially in tourist regions. "We expect big problems in the direction of the islands," said the spokesman. On Monday, return traffic would be stronger. "There will be traffic jams, especially on the feeder roads from the coasts."

Because of the 9-euro ticket, the buses and trains could also get fuller this weekend. According to a spokeswoman, three railcars are to be used on the Usedomer Bäderbahn during the ticket period. The railway line is also popular with day trippers from Berlin. A rush is expected on the Rügensche Bäderbahn, said a spokesman. Because of the 9-euro ticket, more people than space on the trains can be expected at Pentecost.
