Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Gas: CDU sees constitutional principles violated

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The CDU parliamentary group is demanding a statement from the state government on possibly incomplete files relating to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline only wanted to transmit it verbally in order to protect it from being accessed by US authorities, which had imposed sanctions on the German-Russian energy project.

"If a government deliberately refrains from creating files so that it leaves no traces, it violates fundamental principles of the rule of law," said CDU parliamentary group leader Franz-Robert-Liskow to the news portal "t-online" on Monday. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) must comment on this. From Liskow's point of view, such - purely verbal communication - would be an explanation for gaps in the files of the state government.

The State Chancellery confirmed the authenticity of the file note, but rejected allegations of having acted conspiratorially. The document is also not related to the founding of the controversial climate foundation MV. In the state parliament, a committee of inquiry is currently examining the actions of the state government in connection with the founding of the foundation. This supported the construction of the pipeline and was largely financed by the operator.
