Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Government appoints new state cultural council

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - An eight-strong state cultural council will support Minister of Culture Bettina Martin (SPD) in making important decisions in culture and art in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. As the ministry announced, the state government decided at its meeting on Tuesday to replace the panel of experts, whose work is linked to the legislative period of the state parliament. In the previous election period, the Cultural Council played a key role in developing the state's cultural policy guidelines.

"The State Cultural Council is not only important for the state government as an advisory body. It also forms the bridge to all cultural workers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania," explained Martin. The members now included the Rostock musicologist Professor Friederike Wißmann, the Commercial Director of the Ahrenshoop Art Museum, Marion Schael, and the Managing Director of the State Tourism Association, Tobias Woitendorf.

The constituent meeting is planned for next Tuesday. According to Martin, the cultural council will be supplemented by a round table on art and culture in this legislative period, in which experts from a wide variety of disciplines can contribute their ideas and suggestions, including on current topics.
