Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Government: Extend transfer company for shipbuilders

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The state government in Schwerin wants to extend the transfer company co-financed by the state for the approximately 1,500 remaining employees of the insolvent MV shipyards beyond June. The cabinet will discuss a corresponding proposal from the responsible ministers for economics and finance at a special meeting scheduled for Thursday. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) announced this on Wednesday.

For the locations in Wismar and Rostock-Warnemünde there are serious takeover prospects and thus good prospects "that things will continue there on a solid basis," explained the head of government. The armaments company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems in Kiel is interested in Wismar. The Navy wants to set up its own arsenal for ship maintenance and repairs in Rostock. With the extension of the transfer company, skilled workers should be kept at the shipyard locations until the restart. Formally, the approval of the state parliament committees is still required after the planned cabinet decision.
