Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Hansa Rostock: deposit cups at home games

Rostock (dpa/mv) - At the beginning of the second half of the season, fans of Hansa Rostock will only be served their drinks at home games in the Ostseestadion in reusable deposit cups. The club announced the change on Thursday. This avoids a significant mountain of rubbish with every game. The cup deposit of 2.00 euros will be refunded when you return it to the sales stand.

However, there is also the alternative of donating the cup and thus the deposit value for a sustainable purpose. For this purpose, donation containers would be set up along the entire promenade of the Ostseestadion. "And this donation purpose is now clear: the cup deposit should become trees!", according to the association.

FC Hansa supports the "Plant for Future" project, which protects the existing Amazon rainforest with the donations and also plants young trees. For every five euro donation, one square meter of rainforest in the Amazon region of Peru is bought and a new tree is also planted in Germany.

The areas in Peru would be bought by private individuals and protected by trained rangers. "This is necessary because otherwise the areas are often acquired by companies who want to turn them into profitable palm oil plantations or pasture land, for example. That would be fatal for nature and animals," said heavyweight professional boxer Felix Langberg, one of the three founders of the " Plant for Future" project, supported by over 600 people and companies, including musician Marten "Marteria" Laciny.
