Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Health insurance company report: Strong wave of colds in summer

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - A wave of colds rolled over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the summer. This emerges from current data from the health insurance company DAK-Gesundheit, which was published on Friday. In the third quarter, an unusually large number of people were on sick leave, with Corona playing a rather minor role.

Coughs, colds and bronchitis caused 24 percent more reports of incapacity for work in July, August and September than in the second quarter. Because of Corona, however, absenteeism fell significantly in the same period.

According to the information, the sick leave of DAK-insured persons in MV was 5.6 percent, 1.4 percentage points above that of the second quarter. This means that out of 1000 employees, an average of 56 were absent from work every day from July to September. "We had sick leave like in the dead of winter," commented the head of the DAK state representation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Sabine Hansen.

Around 160,000 people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are insured with the DAK.
