Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Heat pump 2020 for every fifth new apartment in MV

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Heat pumps are on the rise in new buildings in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. They were installed in 2020 for 21.4 percent of all new homes to heat them with environmental or geothermal energy, the country's statistical office announced on Thursday. Four years earlier, in 2016, the proportion was only 14.2 percent. Accordingly, single-family houses in particular are relatively often equipped with heat pumps - around a third of these new buildings received one in 2020. More recent data were not yet available.

However, natural gas also dominated in 2020 - in existing buildings and also in new buildings. Natural gas heating was installed in 43 percent of all new apartments. Another 31.6 percent were connected to the district heating network. Oil heating hardly played a role in new buildings in 2020: only 23 of the 7,009 completed apartments received one, including 13 single-family houses.

According to the statisticians, 45.7 percent of all apartments in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are heated with natural gas. Nationwide, according to the information, it is 52.1 percent.
