Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Heil: mood in the population on a very sensitive point

Rostock (dpa/mv) - Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil (SPD) sees people and companies confronted with existential concerns because of the sharp increase in the cost of living. "The mood among the population is at a very sensitive point," he said on Sunday at the party conference of the SPD Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Rostock. That's why he wants to focus primarily on those on middle and lower incomes. In addition to workers, these groups included students and pensioners.

"We will have to do more," said Heil. Appropriate decisions would have to be made at the beginning of September. Since state resources are not infinite, he will fight for middle and lower incomes to be the focus. There is already a relief package worth 30 billion euros.

On Saturday, around 130 delegates confirmed Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig as SPD state leader for a further two years. The 48-year-old received 88.5 percent of the votes. In 2019 she received a strong 94.8 percent. Schwesig has led the national association since 2017.
