Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: High demand and problems: the tourism industry takes stock

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - For the holiday region of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the high-sales summer season is coming to an end. At a press conference on Wednesday (11.30 a.m.) in Schwerin, Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) and the heads of the state's tourism industry want to take stock of the main travel season and the first half of the year as a whole. Especially in the holiday weeks, hotels, guesthouses and campsites were very well occupied.

Despite the ideal beach weather for almost the entire summer, dark clouds also pile up over the tourism industry, which has long been spoiled by success. In addition to the ongoing corona pandemic, rising energy prices and the acute shortage of staff in many places are currently clouding the mood. Recently, there had also been criticism of the sometimes sharp price increases. Due to the corona-related international travel restrictions, demand for domestic holiday destinations had meanwhile increased significantly, with consequences for overnight stay prices, especially in the high season.
