Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: IHK draws an optimistic interim balance with trainee contracts

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The number of training contracts in the district of the Schwerin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has, according to the current status, again slightly exceeded the pre-Corona level. With 605 training contracts up to the reporting date of July 1, the interim balance was 24 contracts above the previous year’s value and above the level of 2019 (583), the IHK announced on Monday in Schwerin. IHK President Matthias Belke sees this as an important contribution to securing skilled workers and is pleased.

Overall, the IHK expects 1,250 trainees to start their first year of training in the areas of industry, trade and services in 2022. In order to achieve this goal, the IHK appeals to parents and families to use counseling services. "This year it is clearly noticeable that many school leavers are hesitant in their decisions. That has to change again," said Belke. From the point of view of the industry representatives, it is not due to a lack of school leavers if training places remain unfilled, the number of which is stable at around 3000 young people.
