Schwerin (dpa/mv) - A tweet from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) about a strawberry cake allegedly baked by Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) for her birthday caused irritation among some users. Schwesig had published a photo of the cake in the short message service and wrote: "Thank you for the congratulations on my birthday! I was very happy about that. Thank you for the special reception in the cabinet with strawberry cake - made by our Minister of Agriculture." A user then asked whether the Backhaus family really had an industrial baking oven for trays of the size shown at home.
Backhaus' press office responded a few hours later. It was a misunderstanding, they said. Schwesig gets the strawberry cake every year for his birthday and in recent years the Backhaus family have sometimes baked it themselves. "This impression was also created at the handover this year. The cake came from a bakery. So it's a misunderstanding that the minister regrets." Schwesig tweeted in the afternoon that she was also happy about the cake from the bakery and that she liked it.
