Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Left: investigations against police officers are not isolated cases

Schwerin/Rostock (dpa/mv) - The left-wing faction in Schwerin sees no isolated cases in the investigations against five police officers from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania because of doubts about their loyalty to the constitution. "However, it remains unclear how much of the iceberg is still hidden," said the parliamentary group's domestic policy spokesman, Michael Noetzel, on Thursday in Schwerin.

On Tuesday, the private and office rooms were searched by three police officers from the catchment area of the Rostock headquarters and two officers from the water police. The headquarters in Rostock is responsible for large parts of Mecklenburg. According to a spokeswoman, the officials were noticed in the course of the investigation into the right-wing extremist prepper network "Nordkreuz". It was suspected of preparing for the collapse of the social order that its members feared by hoarding weapons and ammunition, among other things.

Noetzel described it as shocking that people connected to "Nordkreuz" were still active. "I welcome the fact that the Ministry of the Interior is continuing to press ahead with internal investigations more than five years after the Nordkreuz network was exposed," he said. Further investigations would have to be transparent in order to restore lost trust.
