Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Liskow: In a crisis, if necessary, another exception to the debt brake

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In view of the high energy prices, the head of the CDU parliamentary group in the Schwerin state parliament has brought another deviation from the debt brake into play. If necessary, the exemption from the debt brake would have to be used again, said Franz-Robert Liskow, who is also the state leader of his party, on Sunday. "Actually, it should be known that the state should not sit on the money in economic crises."

Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) recently made it clear, despite the current energy crisis, that the debt brake should be observed again in the coming federal budget for the first time after three exceptional years due to Corona.

Liskow renewed his call for an energy price cap. Anyone who prevents this "sends a large part of German industry, which provides prosperity, jobs and tax revenue, directly into bankruptcy".

According to his ideas, energy prices should be capped at a maximum of 30 percent above the level before Russia attacked Ukraine. In his view, this would fight inflation instead of exacerbating it. "At the same time, the incentive to avoid energy consumption would remain," said Liskow. A 30 percent surcharge is still a noticeable additional burden. It is high time to act, he appealed to the federal government.
