Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: LSB complains about cuts in sport: More talks with the minister

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Sports Association (LSB) has asked Sports Minister Stefanie Drese to stop cuts in finance for sport in the state. This is reported by the NDR, which has received a letter from the LSB to the SPD politician. The letter complains that there has been a public promise not to reduce funding at least. In fact, the funds for sport have been reduced by 750,000 euros a year, it is said. "We understand openness and trusting cooperation differently," wrote LSB President Andreas Bluhm and confessed that he was "surprised".

According to the NDR, the Ministry for Social Affairs, Health and Sport replied "that the funds in the State's Sports Funding Act were increased with the state budget from 8.95 million euros to 11.92 million euros".

Bluhm also referred to an explosion in energy, construction and operating costs. The new construction of the sailing school in Rostock-Warnemünde threatens additional costs of around 8.5 million euros. SPD sports expert Tilo Gundlack admitted: The state could no longer give so much money, the municipalities also had to make their contribution. The required meeting between the LSB and the Ministry of Sport is scheduled for August 18th.
