Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Major diesel theft from cranes north of Neustrelitz

Neustrelitz (dpa / mv) - In the Neustrelitz region (Mecklenburg Lake District), larger quantities of diesel fuel have again been stolen. As a police spokeswoman said on Wednesday, the incidents occurred not far from Weisdin on federal highway 96. Unknown persons had gained access to two closed construction sites, tapped into several tanks from cranes and a tank farm, and stole tools. In total, more than 1,600 liters of fuel, which was probably taken away by vehicle, disappeared. The damage was given as several thousand euros, diesel cost around 2 euros per liter in the region on Wednesday.

A cycle path including bridges is being renewed on the B96 north of Neustrelitz. When the construction workers wanted to go back to work on Tuesday after Pentecost, they discovered the theft. The time of the crime was given as June 1st to 7th. Major diesel and fuel thefts have occurred in the region since the sharp rise in fuel prices in March.
