Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: man from Afghanistan killed: trial for murder against Duo

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - Six months after the violent death of a 30-year-old man in Neubrandenburg, two suspects will have to answer in court from the beginning of August. As the Neubrandenburg district court announced on Tuesday, the 19 and 16-year-old men are accused of joint murder. According to the public prosecutor's office, the suspects are an Iranian and a young person from Afghanistan.

The victim, who comes from Afghanistan, is said to have been involved in an argument on February 7 on a path along the Oberbach in Neubrandenburg by acquaintances and then hit, among other things, with a log. After the 30-year-old fell to the ground, the suspects continued to kick and hit him “with the intent to kill”. According to the indictment, the reason for the attack was that the 30-year-old was said to have described a friend of the 19-year-old as a "slut". The killing due to a violation of honor was carried out for base reasons and should therefore be regarded as a joint murder, it said.

Passers-by intervened. The accused fled, but were caught nearby a short time later and taken into custody. The victim had suffered severe head injuries and died as a result in a clinic on February 18, despite rapid medical assistance.

Six days of hearings are planned for the trial, with a verdict expected in mid-September.
