Sassnitz (dpa/mv) - A burning balcony led to the evacuation of an entire apartment building in Sassnitz (West Pomerania-Rügen) on Wednesday night. A police spokesman said a 25-year-old tenant was injured trying to put out the fire just after midnight. He came to a clinic. The police are investigating the tenant of the apartment on the ground floor on suspicion of negligent arson. A fire expert will investigate the incident on behalf of the public prosecutor's office.
The flames also caught the facade of the multi-storey, thermally insulated apartment building in Sassnitz. The property damage was estimated at around 50,000 euros. The residents of the other apartments were able to return to their apartments after the fire brigade had ventilated all rooms.
