Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - A 39-year-old man from Neustrelitz has been imprisoned for eight years and three months for the violent death of an acquaintance. The district court in Neubrandenburg found the man who confessed guilty of manslaughter and attempted serious arson on Tuesday. Contrary to what the defense had argued, there was no evidence that the crime was less serious, said judge Daniela Lieschke. The 39-year-old, who had multiple convictions, had fully confessed to the crime in the victim's apartment in court.
The 60-year-old victim, an ex-work colleague of the defendant, bled to death immediately after being stabbed twice in the neck in the June 2022 incident. The perpetrator had set a towel on fire in the kitchen and left. The fire went out, but a fire alarm went off and firefighters found the body. The accused was caught in the urban area of Neustrelitz.
