Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania provides a men's helpline

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Male victims of domestic or sexualized violence can now also contact the men's help line in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The country's Equal Opportunities Minister, Jacqueline Bernhardt (left), sees a need for action: "According to statistics, the number of callers increased by 50 percent last year. At the end of November 2022, around 4,000 men were looking for help on the number," she said on Saturday Schwerin. So far, the offer was available in Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg.

Bernhardt's counterpart from North Rhine-Westphalia, Josefine Paul (Greens), is calling on the other federal states to join in as well. "The topic still receives too little attention nationwide, which is why we four countries are setting an example today to break the taboo on violence against men and to make offers of help and support more visible," she said. Ulrike Scharf (CSU) from Bavaria and Manne Lucha (Greens) from Baden-Württemberg made similar statements.
