Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: men light firecrackers and are caught by the police

Rostock (dpa/mv) - The ignition of firecrackers had unforeseen consequences for two men in Rostock. The two 27-year-olds drew the attention of a federal police patrol when they set fire to pyrotechnics near the city highway to Warnemünde on Thursday afternoon, the police announced on Friday. When officers caught up with the men, a search found drugs and several computers that were believed to have been stolen.

One of the men tried to flee and was caught again after a short pursuit. During a search of the house, the officers discovered more drugs, a machete, a stun gun and unauthorized firecrackers. A stolen bicycle was also in the apartment.

According to the information, there was an arrest warrant for one of the men because he had not paid a fine of 270 euros for theft. The man avoided arrest because his 17-year-old girlfriend paid the fine for him on the spot. Criminal proceedings had been initiated against both men for violating the narcotics and weapons laws, as well as for receiving stolen goods and theft.
