Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Minister of Health for Corona vaccination recommendation for children

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The health minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania welcomed the recommendation to vaccinate children between the ages of five and eleven against the corona virus. This had previously been pronounced by the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko). "Autumn is not far off. It is therefore important that children in this age group can build up basic immunity over the next few weeks," said Stefanie Drese (SPD) on Tuesday in Schwerin.

In its recommendation, Stiko had explicitly pointed out the danger of a new wave of infections in autumn. Even those who have already had a corona infection should be vaccinated. So far, the Stiko had only recommended vaccination for previously ill and high-risk patients in the age group.

According to Drese, the vaccine from Biontech should preferably be used for children's vaccinations, but a Moderna vaccination is also possible.
