Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Ministry is examining temperature reductions in state properties

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - In the offices of the state administration, in universities and castles, it could be cooler in the upcoming winter. The Ministry of Finance is examining energy saving measures in the state properties, as a ministry spokeswoman said. The reason is the looming energy crisis in Germany.

The test includes, among other things, the increased use of home office and the reduction of room temperature, according to the ministry spokeswoman. She cannot yet say anything about concrete measures.

In individual municipalities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there are also considerations about saving energy, as the managing director of the town and community day, Andreas Wellmann, said. He wasn't more specific.

The plans in the Bundestag are more concrete: The Council of Elders decided to reduce the temperature in the offices in winter from the previous 22 to 20 degrees. While the air conditioning systems used to provide a pleasant 24 to 26 degrees in summer, depending on the outside temperature, it should be 26 to 28 degrees in the future. Savings should also be made on lighting.
