Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: month after the attack: the police officer is no longer in mortal danger

Greifswald (dpa/mv) - The police officer, who was seriously injured during an operation in Greifswald in September, is no longer in mortal danger. As a police spokesman said on Wednesday, the 60-year-old was able to leave the intensive care unit of the university clinic. According to Arne Zarbock, head of the Anklam Police Inspectorate, the officer was transferred to another clinic for rehabilitation. In this context, a 24-year-old suspect is still being investigated for resisting law enforcement officers and assault.

The incident happened on September 11 in front of a nightclub in Greifswald. There, several people had refused to leave the club premises despite being asked by the security service. When the police came, the 24-year-old is said to have insulted and harassed officials. The officer fell with his head on the street. According to the police, he was unconscious and had to undergo emergency surgery because of cerebral hemorrhage.

The suspect, who was then overpowered by officials, measured 0.8 per thousand breath alcohol. He was released after his personal details were determined. Interior Minister Christian level (SPD) was shocked by the incident.
