Frankfurt/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is again seeing an increase in company bankruptcies. The credit agency Creditreform expects 42 insolvencies per 10,000 companies in the current year, after 38 in each of the previous two years. As Creditreform announced on Tuesday, MV nevertheless improved in a comparison of the federal states from sixth place to third place shared with Brandenburg. Most recently, in 2019, Creditreform recorded an increase in company bankruptcies in the north-east compared to the previous year, with 49 per 10,000 companies.

For the first time since the global financial crisis in 2009, Creditreform noticed an increase in company bankruptcies nationwide. "Persistent inflation, rising interest rates and energy costs as well as an increasingly tough competitive situation are affecting the substance of many companies," said Patrik Ludwig Hantzsch, Head of Creditreform Economic Research. There were a total of 14,700 corporate insolvencies this year - 570 or 4.0 percent more than in 2021. An estimated 175,000 employees were directly affected this year - 34,000 more than in 2021.

According to the information, major insolvencies in particular have increased - including the MV shipyards with 2,300 employees and locations in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund. The highest insolvency rates are given for the city states of Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg, the lowest rate for Bavaria.
