Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: More open training positions than a year ago in MV

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Three months before the start of the new training year, more apprenticeships are vacant than a year ago. According to the employment agencies in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, around 6,000 training places are currently available - almost 12 percent more than at the same time last year. Almost 2,800 applicants are reported to the agencies as unprovided for, as reported by the North Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency on Tuesday. That's about 7 percent less.

The head of the regional directorate, Margit Haupt-Koopmann, said that the difference between the jobs offered and the applicants available was and will remain a central challenge in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. She appealed to the young people to sign their contracts before the holidays if possible.

Vocational training can also mean the start of a good career for high school graduates, she emphasized. The economy in MV is aging and there will be many business transfers in the coming years.

Haupt-Koopmann appealed to those responsible for human resources in the companies to also give young people with rough edges a chance. The employment agency offers support for this, for example through assisted training, introductory training or training-related assistance. Incidentally, young people between the ages of 25 and 35 could also be considered for an apprenticeship. For this there is the "Zukunftsstarter" program of the employment agencies.

According to Haupt-Koopmann, trainees are still being sought in all sectors. Salespeople (535 open apprenticeships), retail salespeople (428), cooks (294) and hotel specialists (239) are currently leading the list of unfilled training positions. However, the top ten also includes business administrators (168), office management clerks (151), vehicle mechatronics technicians (143) and plant mechanics for sanitary, heating and air-conditioning technology (110).
