The number of protesters is growing by leaps and bounds in the northeast. On Monday, more than 10,000 people were counted, almost twice as many as in the previous week. The majority unites the protest against high energy and food prices.
Wismar/Neubrandenburg/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, thousands of people protested again on Monday against the federal energy policy and the price consequences for consumers and companies. As police spokesman said, more than 10,500 demonstrators came together in numerous places between Pasewalk, Stralsund, Neubrandenburg, Güstrow, Wismar and Schwerin, around 4,500 of them in Schwerin alone. In some places, the actions were still going on in the evening, according to the police, there were no incidents. In the state capital, participants had met for the first time for protests, the demonstration march passed the State Chancellery.
This time around twice as many participants came to the protest actions as a week ago and more than five times the number compared to the beginning of September. The participants criticized, among other things, the Russia sanctions and the gas and energy prices, which put an enormous strain on companies and consumers. Criticism of the Corona policy played a significantly minor role in most demonstrations.
In Neubrandenburg, people marched through the streets with peace flags and banners such as "Open Nord Stream II" or "This government is destroying us". An entrepreneur declared to applause that there is no need for a government that is always concerned with the problems of others in the world, but forgets about the people at home.
High numbers of participants were reported from Wismar with around 1400, Parchim with 1000, Ludwigslust with 800, Neubrandenburg with 650 and Güstrow with 700 participants. Further protests were registered in Waren, Neustrelitz, Barth, Bergen, Grimmen, Greifswald and Ludwigslust.
