Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: More than 2000 daycare children without electricity for a day

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In the municipal daycare centers in Schwerin, there were no lights and electrically operated devices on Wednesday. "Electricity throughout the day" was the name of the project with which the city-owned Kita GmbH wanted to test on Wednesday how the facilities would deal with a power blackout and how the children would react.

Mayor Rico Badenschier (SPD) praised the stress test during a visit to the "Waldgeister" daycare center. The idea of making children familiar with the topic of energy in a playful way and at the same time enabling adults to draw conclusions is ideal. Nobody can predict an emergency exactly, but such preparation can help not to panic. More than 2,000 children attend the municipal day-care centers in Schwerin.
