Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: More than 4000 people protest against energy policy

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, more than 4,000 people demonstrated on Monday evening against the federal energy policy, against arms deliveries to war zones and the high prices caused by inflation. As police spokesman said, there were major protest marches in Schwerin, Wismar, Güstrow, Ludwigslust, Waren and Neubrandenburg.

Most people were counted in Schwerin with just over 1100 participants, but significantly fewer than several weeks ago. In one case, the police are investigating a demonstrator who is said to have shown a Nazi salute for using signs belonging to unconstitutional organizations.

In Waren, Neubrandenburg, Wismar and Ludwigslust, the police estimated the number of participants at 400 to 500 women and men. Banners read: "Stop this energy policy - prevent bankruptcies" and "No arms deliveries".

An exact overview of the number of participants was not available until the early evening, as some activities were still ongoing. Really effective state aid to curb electricity and gas prices and to protect companies was demanded across the board in all protest actions.
