Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: More unemployed in MV at the end of the year

Kiel/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - According to forecasts, the number of unemployed in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania rose at the end of the year - both compared to the previous month and compared to December 2021. The regional directorate north of the Federal Employment Agency will publish the official figures on Tuesday ( 10 a.m.).

The higher numbers are explained by seasonal effects and also by the influx of Ukrainian war refugees. Since mid-2022 they have been receiving Hartz IV, which is now called citizen benefit, and are thus included in the labor market system. Several thousand people from Ukraine are registered as jobseekers.

The number of unemployed had already risen in November. At the end of the month, 59,700 people were unemployed in the Northeast, 1,400 more than in October and 5,200 more than in November 2021. The unemployment rate was 7.3 percent, down from 7.2 percent in October.
