Schwerin (dpa / mv) - In an accident on Autobahn 14 near Schwerin, a horse first escaped from a trailer and was then hit by another car. He then had to be euthanized because of his serious injuries.
According to the Rostock police, a 22-year-old drove her car on Saturday night just before the Schwerin motorway junction in the direction of Dresden against the central barrier, whereupon the trailer with the horse fell over and the animal escaped. As it was crossing the freeway, the animal was hit by another car.
"The injured animal could not be saved and had to be euthanized by a vet who was called in," it said. The driver of the car with the trailer and the 40-year-old driver of the second car got away with the shock. However, the A14 in the direction of Dresden remained completely closed for around two and a half hours in the course of the large-scale operation.
