Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: MV Prime Minister Schwesig three weeks for rehabilitation

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) will be out in the next three weeks. The State Chancellery in Schwerin announced that she started her annual rehabilitation measure on Monday as a result of surviving cancer. The cure is therefore used for aftercare.

On November 2, Schwesig will interrupt the rehab for the conference of the heads of government of the federal states with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on the energy price brake. Otherwise, she will be represented by Vice Prime Minister Simone Oldenburg (left), who will also chair the weekly cabinet meetings.

"I'm grateful that I've been cancer-free for over two years. It should stay that way. That's why I'll do rehab again," said Schwesig, according to the message. The 48-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. In May 2020 she announced that she was cured. In the spring of 2022, she underwent a follow-up operation.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2019, Schwesig was open about the disease and had received a lot of encouragement. Even after her recovery, she kept speaking out on the subject.
