Schwerin (dpa / mv) - From the point of view of the Minister of Health, the phasing out of the mask requirement in local transport is justifiable. “We agreed weekly with the Expert Council when it would be possible to responsibly exit the mask requirement on buses and trains,” said Minister of Health Stefanie Drese (SPD) in Schwerin on Wednesday. Among other things, she referred to the low number of corona cases.
With the entry into force of the new Corona state regulation on Thursday, the obligation to wear a mask on buses and trains in the north-east will no longer apply. From then on, a mask will no longer have to be worn in German long-distance traffic. According to Drese, the uniform regulation is easier to understand for passengers.
However, the mask requirement in the healthcare sector remains in place. "We want to continue to protect vulnerable groups in particular," it said. But this obligation regulated by the federal government will also end when the Infection Protection Act expires on April 7th. “In my opinion, this is a sensible time to lift the mask requirement in hospitals, medical practices and care facilities if the corona development continues to slow down,” said the minister.
According to the information, the cabinet is to discuss the obligation to isolate next Tuesday. After that, discussions with experts should also be sought. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) is currently in isolation due to a corona infection.
