Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: No procedure for Stralsund's mayor because of the demo call

Stralsund (dpa / mv) - After a demo call on his social media profiles, Stralsund's mayor Alexander Badrow (CDU) does not have to expect disciplinary proceedings. That was the result of an examination by the Schwerin Ministry of the Interior, said Minister Christian level (SPD) on Wednesday. No sufficient indications of a disciplinary offense within the meaning of the Civil Service Status Act were found.

Badrow had shared a demo call related to the energy crisis on his Facebook page and Instagram profile. There, among other things, the immediate resignation of the federal government was demanded. The Ministry of the Interior, as the supreme legal supervisory authority, examined a possible violation of the neutrality obligation. Badrow had referred to the fact that the accounts were privately managed.

"To check whether the mayor violated his duty of neutrality, this question had to be examined: Can the publications on Mr. Badrow's Facebook and Instagram pages be assigned to the official function of the mayor?" Level explained.

The design of the Facebook page should initially give the impression of an official profile, it said. After a detailed examination, private use with personal, party political and election campaign information cannot be denied. The city of Stralsund also announced that it would not operate the relevant pages or use them for publications.

In the past, the email address "oberbuergermeister@stralsund.de" was listed on the Facebook page. According to media reports, the site at times also prominently referred to Badrow's function as Lord Mayor with a corresponding lettering in the header of the profile.
