Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Organizers present program for agricultural fair MeLa 2022

The MeLa agricultural fair near Güstrow is one of the largest of its kind in northern Germany. The increasing costs for farmers, especially energy prices, will also be reflected in the program in 2022, they say.

Mühlengeez (dpa/mv) - Against the background of sharply rising energy prices, the 31st agricultural show MeLa will take place in Mühlengeez (Rostock district) at the beginning of September. On Thursday (10:00 a.m.) the Farmers' Association of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the Messe- und Ausstellungszentrum Mühlengeez GmbH want to present the program. State Minister of Agriculture Till Backhaus (SPD) is also expected to attend.

The agricultural fair, which is also popular with consumers because of the animal shows, gastronomy, technology and agricultural competitions, has had an average of around 60,000 visitors and up to 1000 exhibitors in the past. Last year there were around 700 exhibitors and 40,000 visitors in Mühlengeez under Corona conditions.

Many livestock farmers, feed manufacturers, plant manufacturers and technology producers, but also planners for wind farms, biogas and other eco-energy plants have already announced that they will be exhibiting in 2022.

According to Backhaus, the agriculture and food industry is the most important manufacturing sector in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with more than 50,000 employees. The animal of the MeLa 2022 should be the spotted rabbit. At a farmer's day, the farmers at the fair traditionally take stock of the current year and address their demands to state, federal and EU politicians.
