Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Police are taking control action against border crime

Pomellen/Ahlbeck (dpa/mv) - In the east of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the police took action against cross-border crime with a large contingent. As a police spokesman in Anklam said, more than 520 travelers and around 400 vehicles between the island of Usedom and Autobahn 11 near Pomellen in southern Western Pomerania were examined more closely on Wednesday morning. Among other things, two drivers were stopped. Conspicuous tools that car thieves often use were secured in a car that was not registered on the B197 east of Neubrandenburg near Warlin. The investigation is still ongoing here.

Federal police officers found several catalytic converters stolen from other cars in the other car on the A11 in Pomellen, bound for Poland. The finds were confiscated.

The focus of the controls on the German-Polish border were, among other things, the region around Pomellen, Ahlbeck on Usedom and the B197 near Warlin (Mecklenburg Lake District), where vehicles leave the Autobahn 20 heading west or come from the west. The evaluation of the mission is still ongoing. At the same time, there were increased checks by the federal police and customs in the neighboring states of Saxony and Brandenburg.
