Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Police officer seriously injured in action in front of a nightclub

Greifswald (dpa / mv) - A police officer in Greifswald was seriously injured in the head during an operation in front of a nightclub. As a police spokesman said on Monday, the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning. A 24-year-old from Greifswald was arrested as a suspect.

According to previous investigations, several people had refused to leave the club premises, although the security service had asked them to do so. When the police arrived, the 24-year-old allegedly insulted and harassed the officers. Suddenly he is said to have pushed a 60-year-old officer so that he hit his head on the street. The officer became unconscious and underwent emergency surgery due to cerebral hemorrhage. He is being treated in intensive care.

The suspect, who was then overwhelmed, had 0.8 per thousand breath alcohol measured. He is being investigated for, among other things, resisting law enforcement officers and assault.
