Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Primary care: Search for solutions in rural areas

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - On Saturday, the General Practitioners Association of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania advised on strengthening general practitioner care, especially in rural areas. According to the State Secretary for Health, Sylvia Grimm (SPD), new solutions are needed, especially for care in rural areas, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health. The cross-regional merger of several specialists is already being tested. Practices in the countryside would also receive funding to make the location a more attractive place to work.

In order to keep young people in the country, the country doctor law has been in force for medical students in the north-east for two years. At the beginning of their studies, they undertake to work as a general practitioner in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for at least ten years after completing their specialist training. In view of the increasingly aging population, Grimm also announced good news: "Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania trains a relatively large number of doctors in relation to its population".
