Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Prosecutor: Six years in prison for alleged bank robber

Rostock (dpa / mv) - A 46-year-old man is behind bars for six years because of a bank robbery in Rerik according to the will of the public prosecutor. There is a particularly serious form of extortion and the accused is fully culpable, said the public prosecutor on Wednesday in her plea to the Rostock district court.

The bank employee threatened by him with a knife with a blade length of ten centimeters was still clearly marked by the crime after six months and was in trauma therapy. A colleague who was also threatened feared for life and limb and was also receiving psychological treatment.

According to the indictment, the man from near Wismar committed the robbery in August 2022 just one day after his release from prison. He threatened the clerk with a knife and punches, even though she didn't have access to the cash.

The woman's colleague finally gave the man 120 euros from his own pocket, with which the perpetrator fled. "If you call the police, I'll come back and stab you," the man is said to have said. The raid lasted about two minutes. The police caught the man a little later.

The defense counsel asked the court to consider mitigating factors. His client is homeless, shaped by decades of alcohol consumption and mentally ill. However, through his extensive confession, he contributed to speeding up the process. The defense attorney waived a specific penalty claim.

The verdict is scheduled to be announced on February 28 at 12 noon.
