Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: protests against energy price policy planned in the north-east

Neubrandenburg/Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In many cities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, protest actions against energy policy with sharply increased prices and their consequences are expected again on Monday evening. According to the assembly authorities, such demonstrations are planned in Neubrandenburg, Waren, Schwerin, Wismar, Rostock and Parchim. Recently, the numbers at such events, which have so far remained peaceful, have risen sharply.

A week ago on Monday, more than 10,500 participants across the country came to such protests against energy policy, including 4,500 people in Schwerin alone. There the demonstration was held under the motto "Secure energy and food supplies, stop sanctions and inflation". In some cities there were also actions against corona restrictions, from which many participants in the energy protests distanced themselves.

Representatives of the state government from Schwerin, such as Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig and Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer (SPD) had recently promised several times that they would continue to work intensively with the federal government in Berlin to cap the basic energy and gas requirements.
