Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Readers, family godparents or dream grandmothers - trained seniors

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, 800 so-called senior trainers have been trained in the past 20 years. "In the SeniorTrainer training, senior citizens learn how they can continue to play an active role in society after the end of their working life, for example as a reader in day-care centers, as a job or family sponsor, as a refugee helper, as a wish grandmother or in senior citizens' advisory boards," explained Minister of Social Affairs Stefanie Drese (SPD) on Thursday in Schwerin. The training is 60 hours. Up to 40 participants went through the program each year.
