Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: redesign at Stralsund's new market: millions in funding

Stralsund (dpa/mv) - Stralsund is benefiting from a federal grant of 1.6 million euros for the redesign of the area surrounding the Marienkirche. The member of parliament responsible for the region, Anna Kassautzki (SPD), welcomed the inclusion in the "National Urban Development Projects" program. The project is one of the "premium projects of building culture in Germany," she explained in a statement on Thursday.

According to the information, a jury had selected Stralsund, among other things. Since 2014, the Federal Ministry of Building has been funding projects of building culture and urban development with above-average national importance.

The project is part of the redesign of the adjoining Neuer Markt. Here, for example, the dimensions of a historic town hall that has since disappeared are to be made visible in the form of a water surface, a Soviet memorial is to be renovated and areas previously reserved for parking spaces are to be used for other purposes.
