The Rostock-Berlin-Rostock train route is a central connection for holidaymakers and commuters, and the end and start station in Rostock is an important hub. He should be trained.

Rostock (dpa / mv) - The Rostock main station is facing several years of construction work from 2026. Deutsche Bahn provided early information about the major project, which should be completed in 2029. Among other things, 2.5 kilometers of new rails are to be laid, noise protection walls several six meters high, overhead lines renewed and the signal box technology updated to the latest digital standard, as Deutsche Bahn announced on Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, the public was first informed about the project in an online event.

The work is related to the upgrading of the Rostock-Berlin route. The travel time should be shortened there and speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour should be possible. However, no new tracks would be laid in Rostock Central Station. It is all about improving the quality of operations and traffic management, the presentation said. At the same time, the measures are the basis for the nationwide Germany cycle. Rail traffic is to be maintained for the most part during the construction phase. However, there will be temporary full closures.

Specifically, it is about the construction of a six-track siding on Erich-Schlesinger-Straße and the construction of a four-track siding on Herweghstraße for local and long-distance passenger trains. Among other things, the trains are to be cleaned there, dirty water disposed of and drinking water refilled. Six meter high noise protection walls are planned for both plants.

According to the plan, additional switch connections between tracks 4a/4b and to and from Warnemünde will be installed in the area of the Goetheplatz Bridge, which should increase the punctuality of the trains. The acoustic investigations by an expert, who is also supposed to create a construction noise forecast, are of great importance.
