Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Reports expected in the murder trial of two young men

Two young men are said to have abused a 30-year-old Afghan in Neubrandenburg so badly that he died. The accused have so far remained silent in court. Experts should now be heard.

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - The trial for joint murder against two young men will continue at the Neubrandenburg district court on Tuesday (10:00 a.m.). Among other things, the chamber wants to hear two expert opinions. These were prepared by a coroner and a psychiatric expert, who present their results. A 19-year-old Iranian and a 17-year-old from Afghanistan are accused.

On February 7, 2022, they are said to have severely abused and fatally injured a 30-year-old man from Afghanistan in Neubrandenburg. According to the public prosecutor's office, the reason for the violent attack was that the 30-year-old should have described a friend of the 19-year-old as a "slut". That was considered a "defamation" and the 30-year-old was brutally attacked. The victim died eleven days later in a clinic.

The accused fled but were seen by witnesses on the day of the crime and caught near the scene. So far they have remained silent in court. During the trial, it also became known that the older main defendant is said to have attacked the later victim in Altentreptow a few days earlier. At the same time, he is said to have asked the 30-year-old to come to the meeting in Neubrandenburg on February 7 to clarify the matter. A verdict in the trial is not expected before the end of September.
