Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Rolls-Royce takes over majority of electrolysis specialists

Wismar (dpa / mv) - The Rolls-Royce group, which is active in engine construction, among other things, takes over the majority of the Wismar developer of electrolysis systems, Hoeller Electrolyzer. The British group is thus entering the market for hydrogen production with electrolysers, the company announced on Tuesday. Rolls-Royce takes over 54 percent of the north German company. Confidentiality was agreed on financial details.

According to the information given, Hoeller Electrolyzer was founded in 2016. The company has developed into a specialist for particularly efficient plants for the production of hydrogen. During electrolysis, water is split into oxygen and hydrogen using electrical voltage. This can be used as an energy source. Green hydrogen uses renewable energies, such as wind power.

According to the announcement, Hoeller is aiming for the series production of so-called stacks - i.e. the combination of hundreds of electrolysis cells. By combining several electrolysers, a total output of 100 megawatts is conceivable. A first customer project is planned for 2024.
