Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Rostock is to become a future customs training location

Schwerin/Rostock (dpa/mv) - Customs employees in Germany are to be trained in Rostock in the future. The country wants to sell the former institute for teacher training to the Federal Customs Administration for 3.14 million euros. Finance Minister Heiko Geue (SPD) informed about this cabinet decision on Tuesday. The state parliament still has to approve the sale of the state-owned building on Möllner Strasse in Rostock.

Geue was convinced that Rostock and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania would benefit from the new location for customs training. "In addition to the many young people who will complete their training in Rostock, the training center will also create new jobs," he explained. The building was previously used for student accommodation and as an institute for teacher training. The country has no more need for construction.

The Federal Customs Administration wants to start teaching in Rostock in 2026, and there should be room for around 600 students.
