Rostock (dpa / mv) - Rostock's Mayor Claus Ruhe Madsen (independent) has announced his resignation. "With my appointment as minister in Schleswig-Holstein, my appointment as a civil servant in the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock will end tomorrow," Madsen was quoted as saying in a personal statement distributed by the city on Tuesday.

The 49-year-old Dane Madsen is to become economics minister in the future state government of Schleswig-Holstein. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday in the Kiel state parliament.
