Rostock (dpa/mv) - The Rostock Seawolves were denied the hoped-for surprise in the basketball Bundesliga in the first game of the new year. The promoted team was beaten by FC Bayern Munich 65:78 (30:53) in the Stadthalle on Tuesday and thus suffered their seventh defeat in the 13th game. The best pitcher in head coach Christian Held's team was Tyler Nelson (16 points).
The guests gained a clear lead in the first quarter and also lived up to their role as favorites in the second half of the game. Above all, the Rostockers had problems using their short-distance throws. The Seawolves were only successful in five of 14 attempts. Munich, on the other hand, was effective in the threes (9/15).
Bayern was the better team after the change of sides and continued to extend their lead. With an interim score of 71:45 we went into the final quarter. The Seawolves were able to decide this for themselves, but could no longer avert the defeat.
