Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Russia flag stolen from ship - police determined

Greifswald (dpa / mv) - The police in Western Pomerania are investigating after a flag theft in the Greifswald museum harbor. As a police spokesman said on Wednesday, unknown persons cut off a hoisted Russian flag and another flag from the masts of the operator of a museum ship and stole them. A flag of the former Soviet Union hanging next to it, a red flag with the symbols of the hammer and sickle in an upper corner, was left hanging.

The police are investigating theft and property damage, the spokesman said. The operator had hoisted the flags a short time ago and was also met with criticism in the Greifswald region because of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. According to the police, flying a Russian flag on such a ship is not prohibited and is covered by the flag regulations. The theft is believed to have happened over the weekend. Several media reported about it.
